GOAL: END HUNGER, ACHIEVE FOOD SECURITY AND IMPROVED NUTRITION AND PROMOTE SUSTAINABLE AGRICULTURE.

“Hunger is the leading cause of death in the world. Our planet has provided us with tremendous resources, but unequal access and inefficient handling leaves millions of people malnourished. If we promote sustainable agriculture with modern technologies and fair distribution systems, we can sustain the whole world’s population and make sure that nobody will ever suffer from hunger again.”

Pantry Parcels, Enactus York

In partnership with Your Cafe in York and The Edge Cafe in Cambridge, Pantry Parcels, an Enactus York project,  transforms surplus food into meal kits. They launched in 2020 and have since made over 1000 meal kits and saved over 400kg of food waste!

“Pantry Parcels seeks to help those in the local community experiencing food poverty.”

Want to know what makes Pantry Parcels an EXCELLENT Enactus Project? Read on below!

    • Half of children eligible for free school meals could not access the scheme in April 2020.

    • When they could access free school meal packs, they often were of low nutritional value and sometimes inedible.

    • Food prices increased by 19.1 per cent in the 12 months to March 2023, the sharpest jump since August 1977. As food prices soar millions are being pushed below the breadline, with many struggling to feed themselves and their families.

    • Pantry Parcels works to both reduce food waste and provide essential nutritional support to those in society who need it most.

    • Pantry Parcels repurposes surplus food (combined with supplemented dry food) through partnerships with community cafes that receive surplus food from supermarkets. They turn this into meal kits with recipes helping people in the community make cheap and healthy meals.

    • Pantry Parcels also helps people reduce their spending by running slow-cooker cooking sessions. These sessions upskill people to cook healthier and lower-energy meals. At the end of a course of cooking sessions, a slow-cooker gets donated to every person in attendance.

    • They are soon to launch a ‘Community Cookbook’ of student, budget-friendly recipes.

    • Pantry Parcels have saved over 400kg of food waste and provided 6,000 meals for those in need!

    • 20 families are provided with 4 servings meal kits every week

    • 880 meals have been provided for beneficiaires over the course of 11 weeks.

    • They also upskilled and provided 12 beneficiaries with slow cooker cooking lessons and gifted 12 slow cookers!
